True Vine Church was organized in 1915 by a small group of residents headed by Nelson Bragg with the mission of establishing a place of worship for people living in the Langford Community. The first place of worship was established as a Missionary Baptist Church on what is now Highway 471. Since the establishment of the church, there have been five pastors. The church has served the spiritual needs of this community as well as the civic needs during the civil rights movement. During the civil rights era, True Vine was a host site for meetings to discuss voting rights and equality in education for blacks in Rankin County. During that time period, the sanctuary was destroyed by fire, but the church was rebuilt. In 1992, the congregation moved into its present sanctuary on Vine Drive. True Vine Church, consisting of over 400 members, added a Family Life Center to its campus in 1993. The Family Life Center has supported various Christian activities including conferences, athletic events, community workshops, and drama productions. Just as communities around True Vine continue to flourish, a new sanctuary is under construction to accompany the area’s expansion while continuing the church’s efforts in meeting the needs of the church, family and community. |
